Harold Maples Editorial Cartoon Collection

The collection consists entirely of original editorial cartoons by Harold Maples published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1954 through 1981. He covered the major local, national, and international events of the late 20th century. Known nationally for his skillfully executed drawings, Maples gave each a distinctive Texas flavor.

The Harold Maples Collection has been digitized and is available in our digital repository.

TCU Theatre and Dance Online Photo Exhibit

This exhibit features images from a variety of TCU theatre and dance productions since the 1960s. The photographs are from the Linda Kaye collection in TCU’s Special Collections. They can also be accessed through the Digital Archives.

Manuscript Collection: The Prickly Pear Press

The Prickly Pear Press had an impressive history of publishing critically acclaimed poetry since its founding in 1973 by Dave Oliphant. While primarily a “regional” press, in that most of its authors are Texans, the appeal of its books has been widespread. The press’s publications have been recognized nationally and even internationally for their original designs and for their quality contents. The Special Collections department of the Mary Couts Burnett Library, Texas Christian University, is the depository for the archives of the press as well as the papers of Dave Oliphant, founding editor, and several of the poets published by the press, including William Barney and Joseph Colin Murphey.

Special Collections: Grace Halsell

The Grace Halsell Collection contains papers related to Halsell’s published and unpublished works, as well as personal correspondence and research material. Halsell’s writings and research material provide insight into racial and sexual relations during the 1960s and 1970s.

Some of the Grace Halsell Papers have been digitized and are available in our digital repository.

Display: Women in the Workforce

Women have made great strides in achieving equality in the work place and the U. S. Government has published a substantial amount of information over the decades that documents that progression. Our Government Information department has created a display on the north west side of the Gearhart Reading Room that features documents concerning this evolution in our culture going back to the 1930s all the way to present day. The information was created by a wide range of Government Departments including, but not limited to, the Department of Commerce, Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services, Labor, NASA and more.
