October 30, 2015 saw the dedication of the Mary Couts Burnett Library renovation. The dedication booklet, describing the renovation and with many photographs of the new facilities included, is available here (PDF).
The newly constructed West Entrance of the Mary Couts Burnett Library is now open. TCU360 has published an article along with a slideshow, and you can see a few additional photographs on the Visions of the New Library page on this site.
TCU Magazine published a story on February 24, 2014 about the Mary Couts Burnett Library book move.
While a new west entrance is still months away for TCU’s Mary Couts Burnett Library, its big book migration is approaching its half-way mark.
To make room for a complete facility overhaul, the library began in late December packing and transporting about 200,000 monographs and bound journals to an off-site storage facility called the TCU Library Annex less than 2 miles south of campus. The process will be complete by April, says James Lutz, director of library administrative services, who is overseeing the move.
An album of photographs of the project is online at TCU Magazine’s Facebook page.
The story also includes this video about the move:
CONSTRUCTION HAS STARTED! This update lists helpful information. If you have questions, please send email to Dr. June Koelker, Dean of the Library, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Move of Library Material
In the latter part of December, we moved approximately 50,000 volumes to the Library Annex. Items moved had been located at the West end of the Library. Thanks to all who helped. The major move of bound journals and selected monographs begins January 27th and continues until finished in the spring.
West Façade Construction
The west side of the building is now a construction zone. Material that was near the West wall stacks was moved in December. There is a temporary construction wall that separates construction from the library.
All staff in Acquisitions, Cataloging and Collection Development are now working from temporary offices. Their phone numbers and mail service to them remain the same.
Access Services will be moving and setting up offices at their new location during the spring semester. Until all testing is completed with software for requesting and retrieval, if you need to request a book, journal, or other material that is not on the shelf, please talk to a librarian or other library staff member at the IC desk or the Circulation desk.
The Library is creating new webpages with information about changes to the building, parking, services and collections. These pages will be a work-in-progress in that we will be updating them every few weeks as things change with the construction.
If you would like me to meet with any groups on campus, let me know. I met with Brite students this week and will meet with Staff Assembly in about a month.
